Planning

Doing your homework

Remodeling can be a daunting task, specially if you are remodeling for the first time, and have no knowledge in construction. It's easy to start with ideas and inspirations but there are a few things to consider before moving ahead, like time, budget, style and so on. (more on that here).

Remodeling can add value to your home OR NOT,  if it's not  planned and done right. Having a strategy and doing your homework before you, or your General Contractor lifts a hammer is essential to a successful project, in fact it governs the outcome.

It's easy to get lost on ideas, possibilities, pinterest, houzz  and so on. In one hand not everything that is possible is worth building, on the other hand a partial remodel may have you spend money and still not have results worth the effort.  Making educated choices and having a well  planned  project is the key to a successful project.

To me, planning a remodel  is like planning a trip to a less travelled  destination.

There will be decisions made on the spot and maybe some things will be changed (for the better!) and that's ok, but the main goal and strategy should be defined before. This will save you time, money and frustration.

Doing your homework means thinking and researching first; purpose, time, budget,  style and a few other topics. Even though is sounds like a lot, don't get discouraged, you should have the help of professional.

An interior designer, an architect and a general contractor can help you learn about construction and help you make educated choices.

The process is often a learning curve, the idea of a new kitchen can be so exciting in the beginning but then might become overwhelming once you find out about all details involved.

But a good professional will help you navigate through the process and and you won't regret doing it!
